Specialist Travel Health Consultant
Derek Evans is a pharmacist who owns a private travel health consultancy. He has worked in community pharmacy in many specialist roles and and senior management positions. He is currently the chair elect of the professional pharmacy group of the International Society of Travel Medicine and the Vice Chairman of the British Global Travel Health Association.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the first Pharmacist to be awarded Fellowship of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for Travel Medicine. In addition he has a Diploma and Membership in Travel Medicine from the Faculty of Travel Medicine, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). Recently Derek has been made adjunct Clinical Professor at KGI School of Pharmacy, Los Angeles recognising his work in Travel Health practice and education.
Derek has written and been published in several international journals and has presented internationally. His principal areas of interest are post-rabies treatment in primary care; water purification techniques and consultation models in travel health assessments. He is an advocate of pharmacists working in travel health with the need to have a defined set of practice standards, education and professional competencies.
